Adult Education

With a commitment of education for the whole family, GUCM offers classes for adults. GUCM partners with Literacy Kansas City, the Kansas City Public Library and Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center to offer courses in Reading, Computer Skills and Health Topic Awareness. Future classes will include Job Readiness, ESL and more.

Adult Reading: Learn to improve your reading along side other adult learners using computer-based literacy instruction under the direction of a qualified instructor, followed by individualized tutoring. Pre- and post-term surveys measure basic literacy and digital literacy to help adults plan their path to success. All participants are assisted by qualified staff who oversee the adult-focused program.

Lunch and Learn: Each month the Lunch and Learn sessions present useful health-related topics for adults as well as provide a nutritious lunch. Experts from the Samuel U. Rogers Health Center discuss health topics relevant to adults. Each topic is informative as well as instructional.

Computer Basics: Over a four-week session students learn computer basics and how to navigate in to day’s digital world. Classes are designed for those who are completely new to computers to those who feel they just need to brush up on their existing computer skills. Facilitated by skilled staff from the Kansas City Public Library, this course is designed to help anyone feel more comfortable with using technology. The facilitator is able to walk the group of students through each lesson so that they will feel more comfortable when the time comes for them to navigate the computer on their own.
